Chevrolet Cavalier recalls include defects on the interior lighting, electrical system, ignition, switch, steering, linkages, knuckle, spindle, latches, locks, hood, and communication assembly. These recalls are for Chevy Cavalier models 2001, 2000, 1999, 1996, 1994, and 1992. The 2000 Cavalier recall with regards to interior lighting that has no illumination control, and is always at its full level affected only 26 units. This lighting condition could make it more difficult for the driver to see what's outside the vehicle during the drive at night. Dealers will provide replacement of the fuel type indicator switch assembly, including its instrument panel illumination control. Electrical system, ignition and switch affected 2001, 2000 and 1996 Cavalier models, affecting 1,415,231 units on the 2000-2001 models and 1,589,948 on the 1996 model of the said vehicle.

 

The switch defect could lead a fire in the steering column, even when the engine is off and without key on it. A relay kit is has to be installed for prevention of high current flow through the ignition. Battery should be checked if properly charged before the start. Replace the ignition if necessary. These are what the dealers have to provide their customers. The 1999 Chevy Cavalier has a recall issued also on interior lighting. The instrument panel backlighting may not function after the adjustment on the interior lighting intensity. It affected 6,584 units of Cavalier. 1994 recall for Chevrolet Cavalier involved problems on steering, linkages, knuckle, spindle, and arm. Torque drive axle spindle nuts were overly built, that could possibly cause excessive loads on the spindle nut and drive axle, leading to failure. Separation of the steering knuckle tire-wheel assembly from the drive axle can be the result of the said failure. Safety recall was also issued for 1994 Cavalier because of communication assembly defect, which affected 417,000 units. The 1992 model recall was due to defective latches, locks, linkages, and hood, which affected 3,212 units of Chevrolet Cavalier.
